Kata Noi Beach, Phuket
Katathani is a big resort that doesn’t feel big. It’s spread out across its own bay (Kata Noi) and is just three levels. There is a lift in each block so people who are averse to stairs are catered for!
The rooms are quite big and each one has a balcony facing the beach. The bathrooms are great, have a separate large shower and good toiletries. When we first got our room, the bed had a really hard mattress so we got them to change it. This was fine because occupancy was only about 50% but I don’t know how easy it would be if the hotel was full.
The buffet breakfast is fantastic! There’s everything that anyone from any country could want. It’s all beautifully laid out buffet style and replenished all the time. You can also get eggs anyway, made just when you want them. Service is excellent! The resort has several restaurants and the ones we ate in were excellent – prices were OK too and the wine list was not prohibitive.
The pools are great and the grounds beautifully kept. (Labour is cheap!) The Spa is every girl’s dream but not cheap. There’s a Jim Thompson shop at the resort which is a winner! There’s not much to do in Kata Noi but Kata shopping and eating is a short taxi ride away and costs just $3. Just up the hill from Katathani is Mon Tri’s Kitchen – a superb restaurant run by the owners of the Boat House, with the most spectacular view across Kata Noi. The food is amazing and lots of choice. We’d be back in a flash!!
The only downer about Katathani is the in-room entertainment. No Video, CD or DVD players and the TV channels are very limited – even no CNN. But what the heck, you’re there to chill out!!
Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and would recommend Katathani to anyone.
