A night in Auckland

We were flying in Premium economy but had to still check in at the economy class counter as they did not have a dedicated check in counter for Premium economy.

After checking in was advised flight was delayed by 1 hour so always worth calling ahead to see if flight is departing on time.

Air New Zealand staff quickly gave us an inspection of the business class product and also got to see the economy class product to make a comparison.

We departed Sydney promptly and found the Premium economy cabin
to be very spacious.
The configuration was as follows:

Configuration

Seat Pitch (distance between seats)

Business Premier
Rows 1 to 7 (26 seats)

Business Premier
Fully lie-flat bed

Pacific Premium Economy
Rows 23 to 24 (18 seats)

Pacific Premium Economy
39" (99cm)

Pacific Economy
Rows 31 to 67 (269 seats)

Pacific Economy
32" (81 cm)

We arrived in Auckland and went through immigration pretty quickly. We had hired a car through Europcar which after walking around for 10 minutes called up
National Car Hire ( Europcar have bought out National it seems) and they had our booking. This is a big issue which needs addressing by Europcar. We waited 15
minutes for the shuttle bus and eventually got underway to Auckland with our car.

To be honest if you are just going to Auckland CBD , take a taxi . Did not find the roads clearly marked and our manual navigational system (Debbie…very friendly but unreliable) needed repair.

Langham Hotel

We arrived at the Langham and was greeted by the doorman and promptly checked in. Parking also seemed to be a problem as parking was full as they had a function on, but they did take care of this and found parking for our vehicle.

We met Tracey our rep and went to the rooms to freshen up.

Hisako and Belinda were in a standard room as they only have smoking rooms allocated to standard.

Marilyn and myself were in an Executive room.

Executive Room

Newly refurbished Executive rooms are rich in décor and elegant furnishings highlighted in silks and velvets offering truly luxurious Auckland New Zealand hotel accommodation.

Also included in the Executive Room rate is exclusive access to complimentary Internet facilities in the mini business centres on floors 5 & 6.

Spacious Executive level Hotel accommodation (28 square metres) with either king size bed or twin beds, European pillows and Langham Signature Pillows and a 25-inch television.

Executive level Hotel accommodation rooms are located on higher floors and all have desks with a desk lamp, chair and armchair seating.

High speed broadband Internet access in the Hotel room. Deluxe marble bathrooms with combined shower and bath facility, three telephones (one in the bathroom)  with voicemail facility, laptop sized safes, mini bar, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, alarm clock, pay for view movies, in room fire alarm and sprinkler system, iron and ironing board, bathrobes and slippers.

Some Hotel rooms have hush glass on windows to block out city noises, and all Hotel rooms have black out curtains, self-controlled air conditioning and opening windows.

Restaurant

We were told how wonderful the buffet dinner would be and to be honest found a very limited selection and not very good.

The deserts and ice cream were pretty good though with a chocolate fountain.

Hotel Inspection – Crowne Plaza Auckland

We met Terry from Crowne Plaza and already was more impressed at the location in comparison to Langham. Felt isolated at Langham and a lot more central at the Crowne Plaza. Crowne Plaza is undergoing refurbishment and will be refurbing rooms from April to September 2007. Above is a picture of standard room ( a little tired at present so beware but bright and airy).

They had an executive room located right next door club lounge which we felt could get a bit noisy.

We had breakfast in refurbished restaurant downstairs which was nicely done.

We returned back to Auckland airport and had to line up to pay our departure taxes. Some of the girls bought duty free alchohol and cigarettes which they said was much cheaper.

We had a really good flight home and the crew was fantastic.

I would certainly recommend Air New Zealand across to the USA as for the little extra you pay , it is well worth the difference in fares as it is a very good product .

Until next time!!!!

Belinda, Debbie, Hisako and Marilyn
